Edit Whiteinch then and now

THIS was Whiteinch in 1971 when shipping traffic could still be seen on the Clyde. A favourite viewing point was at the riverside end of Ferryden Street, just beside the Whiteinch ferry jetty.

Ironically, the original White Inch, or Whyt Inch, was an island in the middle of the river which was removed to make the river navigable to shipping At that time it had a busy fishing trade thanks to the salmon that lived in the Clyde's unpolluted waters But the new Whiteinch expanded thanks to the shipping industry

One of its most famous buildings was the huge Meadowside Granary which is now being demolished to make way for the Glasgow Harbour development.
