Edit Foggy day on the Clyde

THIS atmospheric and spooky image of the old Whiteinch ferry could have been lifted from a Hollywood film noire. You can almost hear clanking chains, ships' hooters and the far-off cry of stevedores in the background as water drips into the river. The ferry, sited where the Clyde Tunnel is now, provided a regular service between Whiteinch and Govan for generations of workers. Originally served by a rowing boat, a steam ferry was introduced in 1891. The service ended in the early 70s.
